French
Statement of Intent
It is our intent at Carrant Brook to provide all of our children with a high quality education in Modern Foreign Languages. Our pupils develop a love of learning for the French language and culture and helps provide them with an understanding of the world.
We build on the children’s ‘cultural capital’ so that their knowledge of the richness and diversity between cultures increases (We are caring).
Pupils are taught this knowledge and understanding through a coherent and sequenced curriculum where they achieve their full potential in this language. Pupils will become confident French speakers, developing skills in reading, listening and writing French and know how important languages will be in their future (We are confident).
This curriculum enables us to ensure coverage and progression across school. In Lower KS2, children acquire basic skills and understanding of French with a strong emphasis placed on developing their speaking and listening skills. These will be embedded and further developed in Upper KS2, gradually progressing onto more complex language concepts and greater learner autonomy. When children leave Carrant Brook, they will have a natural curiosity and confidence to explore other countries, cultures and languages. In a multi-lingual society it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language. They will be engaged and prepared to continue language learning at Secondary School (We are inspired, We are aspirational).
