Carrant Brook Junior School

Physical Education

Statement of Intent

At Carrant Brook, we understand the importance of teaching our children how to develop a fit and healthy lifestyle (We are responsible).

Ensuring that we engage with all areas of the current National Curriculum, we provide opportunities for our pupils to participate in a variety of different sports and physical activities. Our curriculum supports the development of our children’s skills and knowledge for individual activities whilst also providing the chance to apply this new learning from one activity to another, noticing patterns and connections. Through the selected sequence of different sports that we teach, the children will be able to build on prior knowledge, make connections and identify where tactics overlap from one sport to another.

We develop pupil’s stamina, suppleness and strength by teaching a variety of sports and our children will be able to apply the tactical knowledge taught alongside the necessary skills, to a variety of different situations (We are resilient).

All children have the opportunity to engage in competitive sport during lessons (We are aspirational).

Pupils are provided with the opportunity of representing their house in inter - house sports tournaments which in turn, feed in to raising competitive teams that can represent the school against others (We are confident).

Furthermore, we know the importance of providing out of school hours activities including those that do not necessarily feature in our curriculum.
